Vuescan doesnt see my scanner9/20/2023 POWER MAC G-4 (933 MHz QuickSilver) Mac OS X (10.4.If you use your scanner with VueScan instead, you are no longer dependent on the unreliable repairs from the manufacturers and can continue to operate your scanner without problems - even if Apple suddenly no longer supports 32-bit apps, as is the case with macOS Catalina the case is. I still have the old Epson 2490 scanner, which I can not use on a PC or my Mac. I had to purchase a new Epson 4490 Perfection USB scanner, and it works flawlessly with Adobe Photoshope elements. That was about half the price of a new scanner which I ordered on the internet. Just to send the scanner in for diagnostics cost $60 plus shipping + repair parts. I could not figure out how to open the scanner to reset the switches. I figured somehow the install of Mac OX 10.4.8 when the scanner was connected, messed up some of the internal switches and hung up the scanner. I tried it on a different PC work station and ran into the same issue. I installed the scanner with a PC set up using the alternate USB port and the supplied connector. I have sent support request to Epson several hours ago, but I have not even received even an acknowledgment of the email that I should have received within 15 minutes.Īs a follow up to this issue with my Epson 2450 Perfection scanner, I took the scanner with its install disk to work. Since all other peripherals are working, I suspect the problem is either that Apple has not accommodated the Epson scanner, though my Epson R340 Printer is working, or Epson needs to provide a new driver that works with the Apple 10.4.8. I have followed all the directions of the Help software except plugging the cable directly into the CPU as to do so would not allow me to use the keyboard or mouse to see whether that would work. I tried to download a fresh driver but I continually get a "Download Decoding Failure" notice at 10.6 of 10.8 MB of downloading attempts. The error message states that it "cannot be found." Nor is the scanner any longer listed in the Apple Profiler. POWER MAC G-4 (933 MHz QuickSilver) Mac OS X (10.4.5) iSiteĪfter installing the 10.4.8 upgrade, my Epson Perfection Photo 1650 scanner cannot be used. I think there is indeed something wrong here. I called AppleCare and they told me they do not support issues with upgrades. I have removed and reinstalled the scanner software several times and even removed it from my Mac OS 9 system-just in case that was the issue. The green LED keeps on blinking when I turn the power switch on and it should stop after a while indicating the scanner is ready to scan. I worked with the Epson People at a charge and now they tell me that there is something wrong with the scanner. I go to Photoshop Elements and when I import a Twain or Epson 25450 Scan, Photoshop Elements 3 can not find the scanner. ![]() Previously I was using Photoshop Elements 3 to scan items with my Epson 2450 Precision Photo FireWire scanner- and had absolutely no problem with my scanner accessing it through PhotoShop Elements 3 when using Mac OS 10.4.7. ![]() I installed the recent software update 10.4.8 through the software update mode. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? By the way, I'm NOT on an intel based mac. I would think that might be it if the program started and then didn't recongnize the scanner, but that's not the case. Could this have something to do with it? My instinct is to say no since it's the program itself that is getting hung. The scanner connects to the mac via a scsi to firewire converter. I have repaired all permissions on all of my hard drives, verified them all, and still no change. I click on the program's icon, I get the little start up window for the program and then I get the spinning rainbow wheel of death. ![]() Then I installed the update, restarted at least 4 or 5 times, and ever since the update Vuescan won't start. I was using it on the day that the 10.4.8 update came out with no problems whatsoever. ![]() I use Hamrick's Vuescan to run it since Epson refused to update drivers for this older model scanner. I have and Epson Expression 836XL (large format, flatbed scanner) and have been using it for over 2 years with no problems.
